Bassil Elshenawy

AI engineer specializing in generative AI — building Celaron from research experience across QCRI, QEERI, and QSTP.

About

Bassil Elshenawy is an AI engineer specializing in generative AI. He is completing a Bachelor of Engineering in Artificial Intelligence at Ulster University — holding a perfect 4.0 GPA — with coursework spanning artificial intelligence, database systems, software development, and user experience.

His research career has taken him through three of Qatar's leading research institutions. At the Qatar Computing Research Institute (QCRI) he contributed to published research on continual model merging — cutting catastrophic forgetting by up to 78% on CIFAR-100 benchmarks — and was a founding contributor of the CatForge catalyst discovery platform. At the Qatar Environment and Energy Research Institute (QEERI) he engineered an MCP-based framework for LLM-driven 3D geometry generation that achieves 100% watertight mesh output. At Qatar Science and Technology Park (QSTP) he built real-time computer vision systems for privacy anonymization.

He founded Celaron with a conviction that AI should be held to the same standard of evidence as science itself — that the people doing the hardest work in labs, clinics, and engineering deserve tools that are honest about what they know. That conviction is the DNA of every platform the company ships.

Experience

Research & engineering track record

GenAI Research Intern

May 2026 – Jul 2026

Qatar Computing Research Institute (QCRI)

  • Contributed to published research on continual model merging (CMM); implemented a uniform merge-schedule alternative that cut catastrophic forgetting by up to 78% on CIFAR-100 class-incremental benchmarks
  • Built a full evaluation harness computing accuracy matrices, forgetting (FM), backward transfer (BWT), and learning-accuracy (LA) metrics beyond single aggregate accuracy
  • Ran controlled multi-seed ablation campaigns across homogeneous and heterogeneous 8-dataset task sequences, including EWC baseline comparisons

GenAI Research Intern

Oct 2025 – Present

Qatar Environment and Energy Research Institute (QEERI)

  • Developed an enhancement framework for the ThinQA biomimicry prototyping design, augmenting LLMs for autonomous 3D geometry generation and validation
  • Engineered a three-layer architecture using Model Context Protocol (MCP) and JSON-RPC for real-time STL validation, GPU-accelerated rendering, and automated slash-command orchestration
  • Achieved a 100% watertight mesh output rate and under 6-minute generation times for complex case studies such as gyroid catalysts and vascular heat sinks
  • Benchmarked LLM-driven 3D design generation against geometric accuracy, manufacturability, and functional-performance baselines

GenAI R&D Intern & Founding Contributor

May 2025 – Oct 2025

Qatar Computing Research Institute (QCRI)

  • Founding contributor of the published CatForge catalyst design platform, leading research on catalyst design and ML-driven optimization
  • Designed the architectural core for synthesis, evaluation, and prediction models, integrating GAN-based synthetic data generation with XGBoost/KRR predictive ensembles
  • Engineered the majority of the web application: user roles, admin dashboard, usage limits, visualization page, integrated AI assistant, and the full-pipeline workflow
  • Developed SHAP and LIME-based visualization components for comprehensive model interpretability

GenAI Developer

Jun 2024 – Oct 2024

Qatar Science and Technology Park (QSTP)

  • Designed and implemented computer vision algorithms to detect and anonymize individuals in video footage, ensuring privacy
  • Developed and optimized software for processing video streams and applying blurring techniques in real time
  • Documented development processes, algorithms, and technical specifications for team collaboration

Philosophy

The standard is evidence

Three commitments guide every product Celaron ships.

Truth in every number

Scientific and clinical outputs are classified by evidence — measured, computed, predicted, or hypothesis. No fake data, no inflated claims, ever.

Sovereignty for users

Self-hostable platforms, exportable data, open standards. The people doing the work should own their work.

AI that respects limits

The best AI knows what it doesn't know. We build systems with uncertainty intervals, quality gates, and humans in the loop.

BE

“The people doing the hardest work in science deserve AI held to the highest standard — the standard of evidence.”
